MORECAMBE chairman Peter McGuigan has urged Shrimps fans to continue backing the team.
Speaking after the club’s shock win at League 2 leaders Chesterfield on Saturday, McGuigan said the fans could have a big say in where the Shrimps finish in the league this season.
He told the club’s website: “Saturday was an amazing performance and we fully deserved the win. The players were fantastic but so were the supporters who really got behind the side and made a tremendous amount of noise.
“Speaking to most of the players after the game they really appreciated the backing they had and I would love that to carry on until the end of the season.
“We all know recent results have not been as expected and the first half last week at Macclesfield was particularly poor. But apart from that we have played some pretty decent football and always created chances but not taken enough of them.
“We are all disappointed to be where we are in the league but Sammy and the management team have always had our full support and backing and we hope Saturday’s win can now see us kick on.
“We have had five years of unprecedented progress and supporters have got used to that success. It is when you hit a bad patch that you need that support more than ever and that is where we are now.”
