Shaun Miller hopes his next Morecambe goal will be one that sees The Shrimps get back to winning ways.

The former Crewe, Sheffield United and Coventry front man scored his first goal since a summer move in the 4-3 defeat to Bristol Rovers on Saturday.

While pleased to get up and running on the goalscoring front the 28-year-old would rather have helped The Shrimps to a much-needed win as they slipped to a third straight home defeat.

Miller said: “It always good to score and especially get off the mark but the important thing was to get back to getting results and we’ve failed to do that.

“I’m more disappointed than anything else.

“We’re scoring a lot goals but we’re conceding a hell of a lot too.

“We need to tighten up. It’s disappointing because when you score three at home nine times out of 10 you get something out of the game.

“We’ve got another game on Tuesday, and then again on Saturday, they’re coming thick and fast for us to try and correct things.”

Miller’s goal was a fine 20-yard lob after Lee Nicholls raced from his goal at the Globe Arena on Saturday.

The front man has found regular football hard to come by since a cruciate knee ligament while at Sheffield United so was also pleased to get another 90 minutes under his belt in the seven-goal thriller.

Miller said: “The ‘keeper made my mind up to be fair.

“He was in no man’s land and luckily it’s gone in and beat the defenders.

“It’s great to get the 90 minutes as well.

“I’d much rather play 60 and us win but that’s the way it goes.

“It’s another 90 minutes in the bank though and it’s building up, hopefully come Tuesday and Saturday I’ll keep on improving and I can chip in with more goals.”

After more home woes on Saturday Morecambe head back on the road with a trip to Bury in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy on Tuesday before a league clash at Carlisle on Saturday.

Miller said: “We’ve been decent on the road this season but we want to be even better at home.

“That’s what you want to make your fortress.

“We’ve failed to do that so we need to make sure we keep picking up points away.

“We’ll certainly be looking to get through on Tuesday and then do well at Carlisle because we need to get back to winning ways as soon as possible in the league.”
