Preview of Morecambe’s game with Scunthorpe.
Former assistant manager took over when Brian Laws was sacked following the FA Cup exit at the hands of local rivals Grimsby last month and has overseen an upturn in fortunes since then.
As a result, has been placed in caretaker charge until at least the New Year with United currently fifth in League 2.
The 49-year-old former defender played more than 100 games for the Iron himself.
Laws however described his sacking as “unwarranted” as he was dismissed with Scunthorpe just two points off a League 2 play-off place.
The 22-year-old was released by Wolves in the summer after loan spells with Burton, Hereford and Shrewsbury amongst others .
Has scored nine goals in all competitions this season and looks to be a real find at Glanford Park.
Wilcox has guided his side to four impressive results since the departure of Laws with wins at Portsmouth and Torquay with a 1-1 draw at Wycombe last time out on Saturday.
The highlight of the run however was the 4-0 victory at promotion-chasing Rochdale with three goals in the final 15 minutes sealing an emphatic victory over Keith Hill’s side.
First round FA Cup exit at the hands of Grimsby prior to that sealed the fate of Laws.
Saturday’s game at Glanford Park will be the first ever meeting between the two sides in either league or cup after the Iron’s relegation from League 1 last season saw them return to the Football League’s bottom tier for the first time in eight years.
