Morecambe FC have fought off interest from other clubs to tie down midfielder Andy Fleming to a new two-year deal.

It represents some good news on the contract front for the Shrimps after Nick Fenton and Will Haining’s departures due to the club’s budget constraints.

The former Wrexham player scored in the first and last league games of the season and boss Jim Bentley was delighted to have got his man.

He said: “Andy has had a great season and has all the credentials needed to be one of the best midfielders in the Football League.

“There has been interest from other clubs in him and I am delighted that he has agreed to join us again.

“He is a big player for us and a big signing and I’m sure he will just get better and better.”
