Morecambe’s Kevin Ellison suffered a fractured eye socket scoring the winning goal at Mansfield on Saturday.
The wide man picked up the injury scoring a diving header in the 85th minute as the Shrimps turned round a 1-0 deficit to triumph 2-1 at the One Call Stadium.
Ellison was caught with a kick in the face as he scored and went to hospital in Mansfield for treatment.
He will require further treatment this week to see the full extent of his injury but is expected to be out for a few weeks.
Shrimps boss Jim Bentley said: “Kevin has had a bit of stick recently and has admitted that he hasn’t been at his best.
“But we all know what Kev is about and what he gives the team.
“On Tuesday might he was running around like a teenager in the 90th minute of the game and has this amazing determination to win games.
“That is what he gives you and that is why I was so pleased that he was rewarded with the winner today because he was incredibly brave.
“We are gutted to lose him for the next few weeks and we will hopefully have him back as soon as possible.”
