Morecambe Ladies needed extra time to see off Burnley FC Ladies 4-3 to reach the first round of the FA Cup.
Nick Barrett’s side will host Norton and Stockton Ancients on December 6 after this third qualifying stage victory thanks to goals from Jo Norris, Becky Whittingham, Hannah Williamson and Georgia Lupton.
A depleted Shrimpettes side were favourites against the side from the league below and were ahead four minutes in through Norris’ free-kick.
The hosts had by far the better of things before Whittingham smashed in a second after good work from Hannah Paling and Sophie Fish. It was three before the break with the game seemingly all but over when Lupton’s shot was parried and Williamson converted into the empty net from a tight angle.
With nothing to lose however Burnley produced a fine comeback in the final 15 minutes of the contest.
Rebecca Hayton scored twice to set the nerves jangling amongst the home fans before captain Jo Holt headed in a late equaliser from a corner to stun Morecambe.
That set up the extra half an hour with the Shrimps getting the decisive goal after eight minutes, Lupton capitalising on a miss-kick by the Burnley keeper to score into the empty net.
