Morecambe Ladies finally got their North West Women’s Premier League campaign back underway in 2014 as they moved to the top of the table with a 6-2 win over Bolton Wanderers Ladies.

Megan Doherty scored twice with Millie Brown, Becky Whittingham, Hannah Williamson and Gina Pendlebury also on the mark on a damp and blustery day at Lancaster and Morecambe College.

Bolton took the lead through an own goal on seven minutes but Doherty soon had Morecambe level, racing clear before dinking over the advancing Britney Jackson.

Brown then put Morecambe in front with the goal of the day on 23 minutes, carving past four defenders before scoring.

Doherty soon made it 3-1 before Bolton pulled a goal back shortly before the break.

It may have been close at the interval by Nick Barrett’s side made sure of things in the second half with the wind at their backs.

Whittingham restored Morecambe’s two goal advantage, looping over the ‘keeper after good work from Fish, before Williamson slammed the ball home from Hannah Paling’s cross for 5-2.

Williamson then turned provider for substitute Pendlebury who completed the scoring 10 minutes from time.

In a double header at the college, the club’s A team were 3-1 winners over Blackpool reserves.
