Shrimps director steps down

A Morecambe FC director has stepped down.

Stephen Wright tendered his resignation to the club’s board last Tuesday after nearly six years of service.

The resort solicitor cited a desire to spend more time with his family as well as changes in the role during his time with the club as reasons for leaving.

A partner of Wright and Lord solicitors, he said the firm’s sponsorship of the Shrimps, including the main hospitality suite, would continue.

He said: “During my time with the club, it has gone from the Conference to the Football League and from Christie Park to the Globe Arena.

“There have been changes behind the scenes in that time.

“When I started the club was run by a board of volunteer non-executive directors in their spare time.

“Since then the role of the volunteer director has reduced somewhat as the club became majority owned by Peter McGuigan, the business operations at the Globe broadened and full-time executive directors were appointed.

“It has been very time-consuming and I need to make time for other important aspects of my life. I am part of a happily growing business and a happily growing family. Wright and Lord have been major sponsors of the club since 2004 and that is set to continue.

“The firm is committed to supporting the club long into the future.”

Mr Wright said he had been “proud” to serve a club he has supported since being taken to Christie Park by his grandad at the age of five.

He said: “As a fan, apart from playing for or managing the team, being a director is the highest privilege and responsibility.

“I have been proud to serve the club and would like to thank my partners at Wright and Lord Solicitors for allowing me the time and resources to support the club as a director for the last six years.

“I’d also like to thank all the people I have worked with at the club who have made it such a pleasurable time.”
