POLL: Morecambe announce free entry for Dagenham game

Morecambe FC have announced their re-arranged game against Dagenham & Redbridge on January 8 will be free entry to all fans.

The Shrimps have made the unprecedented move in a bid to curb disappointing Globe Arena crowds, with manager Jim Bentley highlighting them as a reason for him struggling to strengthen his squad.

The club hope to attract new fans to the ground with the offer, admitting next Tuesday night's game would be one that traditionally has a low crowd.

Chairman Peter McGuigan said: “This is a unique offer and we hope to see as many people as possible at the Globe Arena on Tuesday for this game.

“The date of the fixture is not ideal coming so close to Christmas and the New Year and we are realistic enough to know that it could be a particularly low crowd.

“So instead of looking at this fixture as a difficult “sell” we have decided to turn this game into a positive story and we are confident that we will receive a positive reaction from not only our loyal fans but also the town and the surrounding districts in general.

“We know that money is tight for everyone and we want to give our fans something back. We hope supporters appreciate that offer and turn up in numbers to help make it a great atmosphere.’’

The original fixture against the Daggers was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch on December 22.

All areas of the Globe Arena will be free entry, with turnstile entry to the home terraces from 6.30pm. Tickets for the PMG Main Stand seating areas will be available from the club shop or ticket office from 5.30pm on a first come first served basis.

The game kicks off at 7.45pm.
