Morecambe boss rues two points dropped

Jim Bentley felt his side should have sealed the three points in the first half against Bristol Rovers on Saturday.

The Shrimps boss saw Jack Redshaw give his side the lead after just 67 seconds but after spurning a host of first-half chances Elliot Richards gave The Pirates a point with a 48th minute header in an entertaining contest.

Bentley said: “It was a great game.

“There were two in-form sides with players who had a good go so it made for an entertaining game but for me in the dugout it was a little bit hairy at times.

“Some of our football was very good but overall I’m disappointed we haven’t come away with three points because in the first half we could have had the game wrapped up.”

Bentley admitted to being twitchy with his side failing to capitalise on their openings.

He said: “I didn’t want half-time to come because I thought we were so much on top.

“At 1-0 they’re always in the game and we just didn’t start the second half as well as we did the first and they pegged us back.

“After that I thought we lost our shape and discipline a bit and the game got a little bit stretched.

“Both teams have had chances to win it but I’m disappointed we haven’t got the three points.”
