Morecambe chairman Peter McGuigan has hailed the “fantastic job” being done by boss Jim Bentley.

The Shrimps supremo appointed the Wembley winning skipper to replace Sammy McIlroy in May 2011 and is delighted with the work being done by Bentley and his assistant Ken McKenna.

McGuigan said: “I think we’re doing really well.

“There’s 46 games in a season and people think if you’re not in the top half by Christmas you’re heading for relegation.

“But it’s a marathon not a sprint.

“Coming into the last 15 games another couple of wins people will then be talking about possibly play-offs where as four weeks ago it’s doom and gloom and we’re thinking we are going to get sucked into a relegation battle.

“I think we’ve got a strong enough squad and Jim and Kenny have done a fantastic job and are doing a fantastic job.”

The chairman hailed Bentley’s commitment to the role, The Shrimps boss working round the clock to bring the best possible players to the club.

McGuigan said: “He’s an intelligent manager and also he’s got a fantastic work ethic. He’s got time for people. Before we sign a player he’ll go and see him, he’ll watch him.

“He puts a lot of hours in outside of the working day and he and Kenny share the same philosophy. I got to know him when he was a player and he can deliver a rollicking at half-time and with his size people listen to him.

“I think he was a fantastic appointment and he’s doing a fantastic job.”
