Bentley: With right attitude, Redshaw can go far

Jack Redshaw and Ryan Williams celebrate the former's second minute goal.

Morecambe boss Jim Bentley believes Jack Redshaw can play as high as The Championship with the right attitude.

The former Manchester City youngster made it 11 goals for the season against Bristol Rovers on Saturday and could have easily had more than the one he scored after just 67 seconds.

And Bentley challenged the diminutive front man to emulate the hunger shown by the likes of Kevin Ellison to realise his potential.

The Shrimps boss said: “He was on fire in the first half.

“If you could put the Kevin Ellison desire into Jack Redshaw he’d be playing at Championship level easily.

“He’s just got to have that hunger. He’s played well and looked good on the eye and caused their centre halves problems.

“He’s had four shots on target and scored one, seen a couple cleared off the line and popped up everywhere but he’s got to have that hunger in his game.”

Bentley said he was pleased with the former Altrincham man’s progress but was disappointed he hadn’t put the game beyond Rovers in the first-half on Saturday.

He said: “We’ve got him certainly fitter and stronger since we brought him here, he’s shown good form.

“But he’ll be disappointed he’s only come away with one goal today, I certainly am.

“Having said that he’s done well but goals make the headlines and on another day he could have won us the game single-handedly in the first half alone.”
