Bentley’s mixed feelings over postponement

Morecambe boss Jim Bentley wasn’t too unhappy after his side’s game against Dagenham & Redbridge was postponed ahead of arguably their biggest game of the season on Boxing Day.

The Globe Arena pitch failed an 11am pitch inspection on Saturday after persistent rainfall hit the district in the run-up to the match.

And despite The Shrimps manager wanting to extend his side’s seven-match unbeaten home run in League 2 he confessed the cancellation meant his side would be fresher for the big trip to Fleetwood on Boxing Day.

“You want to play all the time and we’re on a decent run at home but we’ve had a quite a few niggles in the camp over the last week,” said Bentley.

“Kevin Ellison has been unwell and Nick Fenton and Jordan Mustoe are nursing knocks from the Oxford game.

“They’d all have been fit to play Dagenham but it gives them an extra couple of days to recover.

“The pitch was pretty bad after the game on Wednesday against Man United’s reserves and it was borderline on Friday.

“With all the rain early on Saturday it was definitely unplayable.”
