Barry Roche column: Ellison goal the best I’ve ever seen

Without doubt all the headlines from the weekend’s game will centre around Big Kev’s wonder strike and quite rightly so.

It was definitely the best goal I’ve ever seen live.

He will try and tell anybody that listens that he does that week in, week out, in training but the truth is that those efforts are more likely to end up in the allotments that run alongside our training ground.

As he lined up to hit it I was thinking “what on earth are you doing”?

But in typical Kev fashion it flew straight into the top corner giving their keeper absolutely no chance at all.

It was that good a strike that despite booing his every touch when he came on the majority of the Rochdale fans were actually applauding the goal.

Putting the goal to one side I thought it was a pretty good and professional performance all over the pitch from us.

They may be on a bad run but still have good players all over the pitch than can hurt you. So for us to limit them to one chance was very pleasing.

After three games without a win it was vitally important for us to get back to winning ways and to do it in such emphatic fashion was absolutely brilliant.

We knew we let ourselves down at Burton last week and were all dead set on having a positive reaction.

We’re now one point away from the gaffer’s first target of 50 points but despite being so close to it there is no way we will or will be allowed to rest on our laurels.

We’ve got some massive games coming up and with so much to play for we will all be working our socks off to get ourselves on another winning run that has seen us shoot up the table in the last couple of months.
