JIM Bentley has urged Shrimps fans to be “realistic” after being frustrated by negative comments during his side’s 2-1 home defeat to Crewe on Saturday.
The Shrimps’ boss says he was surprised by some of the negativity around the Globe Arena during the game which he feels added to the “nervousness” of his players who again struggled to find top form at home.
Bentley, who was clearly down after Crewe pinched victory with a 94th minute goal, said: “The majority of the fans on Saturday were brilliant and I take my hat off to those who made it a great atmosphere.
“But there were some comments that really surprised me. The lads can hear them and it really doesn’t help anyone.
“I am Morecambe through and through and nobody hurts more than me when we lose or gets more frustrated than me when we don’t play well.
“But I think we need to make sure we are realistic and not run away with ourselves with the good start we have made.
“There will be ups and downs and we won’t win every game and we have to remember that.”
