Morecambe fans have short memories

The Visitor’s Morecambe FC reporter Derek Quinn gives his personal view on the departure of Sammy McIlroy

THE departure of Sammy McIlroy is a landmark moment for Morecambe Football Club.

Sammy and his assistant Mark Lillis lifted the club to new heights and those booing his name at the Globe Arena on Saturday seem to have short memories after the pair gave the Shrimps their greatest ever moment with that memorable triumph at Wembley.

McIlroy will be the first to admit this season hasn’t been good enough and he has been something of a tortured soul in recent weeks.

Arguments with fans on the sidelines, fewer after- match press interviews and increasing frustration with some of his players’ more basic errors have all pointed to a man exasperated by his side’s failings.
