THE Shrimps are looking for their first ever win over Northampton as they look to maintain their excellent start to the season this weekend.
Jim Bentley’s revitalised side picked up their third league win in four games with a 2-0 win over Aldershot on Saturday and have officially now enjoyed their best ever start to a Football League season.
It is a run that former Northampton centre half Chris McCready hopes will continue this weekend as he looks for a winning return to the Sixfields Stadium.
McCready, 29, who played 14 games for Northampton in a short spell with the Cobblers, could come up against two former team mates and friends in Adebayo Akinfenwa and Bas Savage.
He said: “Bayo and me became close friends at Northampton as we were both put up in a hotel together and I was with Bas at Tranmere.
“They are both great lads and good players who use their height and strength well and make things difficult for defenders.
“But we have looked pretty solid so far this season and will be ready for the challenge.
“We have changed our defensive system and worked really hard at it on the training ground and so far it has paid off.
“To win four games in a row is a nice feeling and something we didn’t achieve last year.
“We didn’t really show any consistency last year and that is what we are aiming for this year.
“It is not going to be easy because there are a lot of of good teams in this league but we have started well and hopefully we can keep it going.”
