Morecambe have completed the signing of Tom McCready on non-contract terms.
The 23-year-old younger brother of former Shrimps stalwart Chris is set to play for nothing in a bid earn a permanent deal at the Globe Arena having impressed while training with the club since the latter part of last season.
The midfielder has featured in Morecambe’s pre-season campaign having represented Stewart Drummond’s reserve side last year.
McCready, a former Everton youth player, came through the ranks at Goodison Park and also had a spell with Hibernian before accepting a scholarship in the US and representing Limestone College.
Manager Jim Bentley has been impressed with his attitude.
He said: “It’s refreshing in this day and age where a young footballer who’s trying to make his way in the game is willing to sign for no wages.
“He’s got savings so he’s quite happy to sign for nothing and live off that while he does his stuff and tries to earn a permanent contract with us.”
