Jim Bentley believes Morecambe fans should ignore the League 2 table when it comes to Tuesday night’s clash with York City at the Globe Arena.

The Minstermen sit second bottom of the division having struggled since reaching the play-offs last season while the Shrimps moved back into the top six with an impressive win at Burton on Saturday.

But Bentley knows that they will be a different proposition under new boss Russ Wilcox, with the man who guided Scunthorpe to promotion last season set to oversee his second game in charge after Nigel Worthington’s departure.

The Shrimps boss said: “I think some people might get a bit carried away with the win on Saturday.

“It raises expectations and we’re playing second from bottom in the league.

“But this is a side that reached the play-offs last year and they still have the majority of that squad together.

“They haven’t started that well for one reason or another but any side under a new manager raises their game.

“They’ll be right up for it and we’ve got to make sure we match it.”

Jack Redshaw will return to the squad after missing the win at Burton with shin splints.

Laurence Wilson is also back in training after two months out with an ankle ligament injury but the York clash with come too soon for him.

Andreas Arestidou will also miss out with a stomach injury with goalkeeping coach Lee Jones set to act as cover on the bench again.

Alan Goodall is also still out with a hamstring injury.
