Morecambe boss Jim Bentley is closing in on his first signings of the summer.
It has been a difficult close season for the Shrimps with the departure of several key players due to budget cuts.
But Bentley is confident of announcing new arrivals in the next fortnight.
He said: “We’re closing in on a couple of defenders and are speaking to a couple of forwards as well.
“It’s been hard.
“Bringing people in is taking up all my time at the moment.
“There’s been a bit of doom and gloom around the place with players leaving but I’m confident we’ll have some positive news in the next week or two.”
The latest Globe Arena departure was striker Jordan Burrow, who turned down a new deal on reduced terms to join League 1 side Stevenage.
The former Chesterfield man, who made 35 appearances last season, including 15 starts, joins Nick Fenton, Will Haining and Gary McDonald in leaving the Shrimps.
Bentley said: “We made Jordan an offer but again it was on reduced terms and he has decided not to accept.
“I’m really sorry to see Jordan leave because I really do think he has a bright future in the game.
“He has a lot of strengths and is getting better all the time but he sees his future elsewhere and I hope he does really well for himself.”
One player to sign up for next season is youth and reserve team defender Will Bell, who has signed his first professional contract with the club.
The youngster, who was an unused substitute on one occasion last season, has signed a one-year deal.
Bentley said: “Will has done well in the youth team and the reserves and is someone who has a lot of potential.
“We will watch his progress closely over the year and hope to develop him even further.
“We look forward to working with him.”
