Morecambe are still looking for their first home win of the season after Jon Parkin's hat-trick helped Fleetwood to an emphatic win in a feisty Lancashire derby.

It was an abject display from the Shrimps who came into the eagerly anticipated game in the best possible form after impressive away wins at Bristol Rovers and Accrington Stanley but had no answers as the big-spending Cod Army strolled to victory thanks to goals from the former Preston front man and Barry Nicholson.

The first moment of controversy came just four minutes in, Richard Brodie being booked for diving after a clash with former Shrimps 'keeper Scott Davies in the Fleetwood box as the ball ran loose.

But despite some decent play from the home side it was the Cod Army who had the best early chance to take the lead, Jamie McGuire could only head over from six yards after Barry Roche had misjudged Andy Mangan's right-wing cross.

McGuire then headed a more difficult chance over after beating Nick Fenton in the air before Micky Mellon's side took the lead on 20 minutes.

Mangan, a constant threat down the right, sent in an excellent cross that evaded a despairing dive from Roche and made its way all the way across the Shrimps 18-yard box before Parkin converted at the back post from a narrow angle.

The game became scrappy for the rest of half with both sides being dragged in to what had been a physical clash right from the first whistle.

The Shrimps finished the first 45 minutes strongly however, Davies doing well to beat away efforts from both Gary McDonald and Will Haining.

But despite the strong conclusion to the half, the Shrimps quickly found themselves with a mountain to climb in the second period as Parkin scored his second on 50 minutes as Jim Bentley's side once again failed to deal with a near-post corner.

And for all their endeavour they never looked like coming to the back into the game, Shaun Beeley crashing a shot against the bar for the visitors before they extended their lead with a goal Nick Fenton will want to forget in a hurry.

The Shrimps defender was dispossessed 25 yards from goal by Mangan who squared for Parkin to complete his hat-trick 15 minutes from time.

The striker known as "The Beast" then turned provider for Barry Nicholson who was on hand to head home the Cod Army's fourth at the back post in what had turned into an ugly afternoon for Morecambe FC.
