Morecambe boss Jim Bentley said the only positives on a dismal day for his side against Southend were the returns to the starting line-up of Chris McCready and Marcus Marshall.
Marshall showed flashes of what Shrimps fans have been missing as both he and McCready were named in the starting 11 for the first time since the 2-1 victory over Plymouth on August 31.
But they couldn’t prevent Morecambe crashing out of the FA Cup with a 3-0 defeat at the Globe Arena.
Bentley said: “I think he (Marshall) did alright through pre-season.
“He scored a great goal and did well at St Johnstone but we obviously haven’t seen him as much as we would have wanted.
“He’s come back in today and like the team I thought he started sloppily in the first 10 minutes.
“But he showed some real quality and is just lacking games and started getting cramp so we had to bring him off.
“He’s had no ill affects and looks to be back up to speed.
“Chris McCready’s come through a full 90 today as well and they’re my only positives on a very dour day.”
