Lancaster City made heavy weather of victory over a poor Prescot Cables side at Giant Axe on Saturday.

The Dolly Blues raced into a two-goal lead thanks to goals from Danny Gregson and a Lee Dodgson penalty.

But they were pegged back by a Danny Lambert strike ten minutes before the break before Dave Swarbrick sealed the points late on after a nervy second half.

City dominated the opening spell with Gregson turning home from close range sfter Swarbrick's original effort had been saved.

Adam Reid kept his side in touch with a string of saves before bringing down Tom Kilifin for a 23rd-minute penalty which Lee Dodgson converted.

Kelly then pulled a goal back for the visitors, his tame effort from the edge of the area sneaking into the corner to give Cables hope against the run of play.

An abject second period followed before Swarbrick finally confirmed City's win with five minutes remaining, rounding Reid to score after excellent work from substitute Aaron Taylor.
