IN THE Premier Division, as the season nears its end, Highgrove took a big step to winning the Championship when they beat their nearest challengers Bowerham/Furness in a close and often thrilling game.

Bowerham started really well and for the opening five minutes could and should have taken the lead.

But they were nearly caught out when an inch perfect pass found Josh Buller in space just outside the penalty area but with only the keeper to beat he shot well wide giving the Bowerham side a let off.

The breakthrough came just two minutes later when Lee Brade received a pass wide on the left wing, his pace took him past his marker and his excellent pass found Luke Ogley in the six yard area who turned the ball into the net.

Bowerham, knowing they had to win to keep in the hunt for the title, went back onto the offensive still looking for goals but the Highgrove defence were on top form.

Every time Highgrove attacked they looked the more dangerous side. In the 28th minute a Lee Brade thunderbolt of a shot smashed on to the bar with the keeper well beaten.

Within 60 seconds of this let off for Bowerham, Highgrove struck again when it was Brade’s turn to receive a superb through ball and he made no mistake to put his side into a 2-0 lead.
