STEWART Drummond has paid tribute to Morecambe FC and some of the great players and staff he’s worked with over the years.

Speaking before his testimonial match last Wednesday, the Shrimps player-coach picked out Jim Bentley, Rod Taylor and ex-Morecambe striker Justin Jackson as some of his favourite people to work with during his career at the club.

And he said the FA Cup runs of 2001 and 2003 were his favourite times as a Morecambe player.

“When we started playing the likes of Cambridge and Chesterfield in the FA Cup, that’s when Morecambe started getting recognised,” said Drummond.

“Of course the Ipswich game (FA Cup 3rd round in 2001) was a high profile game at the time, being built up on TV and that sort of thing.

“The best I’ve played with? That’s a tough one. There’s been a few, most of them Scousers!

“Justin Jackson, he wasted a bit of what he had. He got some good moves away from Morecambe but always returned.”
