A goal in either half saw Morecambe record a pre-season victory over a battling Burscough on Tuesday night.
Jack Redshaw opened the scoring on four minutes from the penalty spot. Alex Kenyon was brought down on the edge of the area and Redshaw made no mistake with a well-taken spot kick.
The Shrimps then dominated the early stages of the game and created a string of chances.
Redshaw looked a good bet to score a second four minutes later when he was put through by Kenyon but he was denied smartly by home ‘keeper Tim Horn.
Jamie Devitt then forced Horn into a good save at the near post and Jack Sampson volleyed wide before the home side enjoyed a period of dominance.
Jordan Williams then went close on two occasions as the home side began to exert some pressure on the Shrimps and ended the half on top.
The second half began with Sampson shooting tamely at Horn from an acute angle and Redshaw seeing a smart volley well blocked.
The second goal came on 66 minutes when substitute Padraig Amond outmuscled Nick Ryan to win Kenyon’s through ball before running through on goal to slot the ball neatly past Horn.
It was a good workout for the Shrimps who had number one Barry Roche back in goal for the first time this pre-season as he has struggled with injury.
Trialist striker Paul Mullin also played the last half an hour as he continues his bid to earn a deal at the Globe Arena.
