Jim Bentley believes his trio of loan signings will create good competition for places at the Globe Arena.
The Shrimps boss has added Ryan Edwards, Jordan Mustoe and Liam Grimshaw in the last week as his injury-hit side enter the final stages of their League 2 campaign.
Bentley’s side are in danger of having little to play for but the Morecambe manager insists the new arrivals should be a timely reminder to some players that there is plenty on the line.
He said: “If I’d seen people coming in in my position I’d be putting my foot on the gas.
“Players are playing for their careers. They’re in a privileged position to be a Football League player.
“You look at the players out of the game at the moment. There’s loads who have drifted into non-league and turned semi-professional.
“You’ve got to work extra hard to make sure you’re still a Football League player and get higher up the divisions. That’s what everyone wants to do.
“And as soon as they take their foot off the gas I’ll be all over them because I didn’t do it, don’t do it as a manager and certainly don’t expect it from the players.
“So bringing a couple of players in will keep the players on their toes, aid competition for places and will give us a bit more depth over the next couple of weeks.”
