Morecambe boss Jim Bentley vowed to continue moving the club forward after extending his contract at the Globe Arena.

Along with assistant Ken McKenna, the Shrimps legend has signed a two-year extension to a deal that had been due to expire at the end of this season.

The pair are in their third season in the Globe Arena dugout and remain determined to keep progressing after an excellent start to the League 2 season.

Bentley said: “I have been at Morecambe for more than 10 years and it is a place that is close to my heart.

“I have enjoyed my last two years in management and I feel we are progressing both on and off the pitch.

“Kenny and myself are working really hard and no-one could be more determined to make this a success than the pair of us.

“We are working hard on doing the right things in relation to players, developing a training ground and developing a youth system.

“It doesn’t just happen overnight at a club like ours so we have to go about things the right way and everyone at this club is determined to see us develop even further over the next few years.

“We are already seeing the positive changes and the rewards of everyone’s hard work and we are determined to make sure that continues over the next few years.”

Shrimps director Mark Mace, responsible for the contract negotiations, said: “Jim’s contract was up at the end of this season and there was never any doubt that we wanted him and Kenny to continue to do the excellent job they are doing.

“When we look at what good looks like for Morecambe Football Club it involves Jim at the heart of everything.

“He has the qualities we need at this club. He has an amazing desire to succeed and galvanises everyone around him.

“He knows the club inside out and has done a fantastic job and it was a very easy decision for us.”
