Jim Bentley hailed a “fantastic” Morecambe performance as they secured League 2 safety with a 3-0 win at AFC Wimbledon.
Goals from Jack Redshaw and Jamie Devitt and a late Padraig Amond penalty ended a run of nine games without a win and ensured the Shrimps head into the final game of the season against Bury at the Globe Arena free from any relegation worries.
Bentley said: “I’m pleased. It’s been a difficult few weeks for us.
“You have your ups and downs in football and I believe these things will make me stronger and a better manager.
“I’ve learn a lot about myself and football in general.
“It was a fantastic performance today, credit to the lads, it was really professional.
“We haven’t had a clean sheet for a long time but we got one and scored three good goals.
“I’m made up for the fans who’ve travelled down too.”
Bentley said he always believed the Shrimps would get out of trouble but admitted it had been a difficult period.
He said: “You’ve always got belief in your own ability.
“But you look around and I always believed Northampton would get out of it,
“Bristol Rovers are a massive club and look at Exeter beating Scunthorpe today, who would have called that?
“You’ve just got to keep calm, keep focused, it’s difficult but you can’t get too involved in it all.
“We got there in the end and that’s all well and good.”
