Morecambe boss Jim Bentley hailed his substitutes after they inspired a dramatic Dagenham fightback on Saturday.
Ryan Williams, Jack Redshaw and Jordan Burrow all came off the bench to give The Shrimps an attacking edge that had previously been lacking as they helped their side score two goals in two of the most important minutes of the season so far.
With 10 minutes to go and 1-0 down Morecambe were 19th in the League 2 table and just four points off the relegation places.
But goals from Stewart Drummond and Williams saw them end the day in 16th and eight points from the bottom two.
Bentley said: “I always tell the substitutes to make sure they are ready to get on and have an effect on the game and that is exactly what they did.
“They all came on and looked really lively and made exactly the impact we wanted. Sometimes your substitutions come off and sometimes they don’t and I am delighted that on this occasion they did exactly what we wanted.
“All the lads showed great character and determination because to be a goal down away from home with 10 minutes to go and overcome that is a fantastic effort and I am really proud of them all.
“We haven’t had the best of records away from home recently so this was an important and very welcome win.”
