Going to play the league’s top team on Saturday was always going to be a tough task but we unfortunately made it easy for them by giving away three poor goals.

They are a very good side and are top of the table for a reason but they didn’t have to work particularly hard for their goals.

All three goals were down to poor play by us and despite what we did at home to Chesterfield the game was effectively over at half-time.

We did give it a good go after the break and had a couple of decent chances but at 3-0 up Oxford were able to just sit back and invite us on to them.

It did make for a very long and sombre journey back north, as I’m sure it was for the Shrimps fans who made the trip.

But despite the scoreline I felt that there was some positives to take from the game.

We had worked during the week on playing some more passing football and at times some of our play was very pleasing.

We knocked the ball around really well and if we continue to play football in that manner I have no doubt we will win more games than we will lose.

There is no point denying that we have been going through a bit of a sticky spell of late but every team goes through one at some point in the season.

But what we will be doing is all sticking together and working extra hard in training to put things right and rediscover our early season form.
