Although the season has been far from a bad one it certainly didn’t live up to the early season expectation after our brilliant results and performances in the first couple of games.

Going to Blackpool in the first game and deservedly turning them over in the Capital One Cup was definitely the highlight in my eyes.

Nobody gave us a chance of causing an upset but we put in an unbelievable performance that day followed with another great one the week after at Exeter.

The Grecians had just come down from League One and went into the game as massive favourites but we took them apart in the first half and comfortably saw out the game.

Those two results raised the expectations around the club, ourselves included, but we didn’t quite live up to them.

The lows are pretty easy to pick from my point of view.

Fleetwood at home and Barnet away were both complete disasters on a personal level. Getting my first career red card (at Barnet) was hard to take especially after the couple of goals that had gone in prior to the penalty incident.

But I’ve made mistakes before and no doubt I’ll make some again so I don’t let things like that affect me anymore.

As I said at the start, the season has been far from a failure when you look at the bigger picture. We have a much smaller squad, budget and fan base than the majority of clubs in the league but we know on our day we have been capable of beating any one of them.

We have taken points off all the promoted teams and the ones in the play-offs. So it just shows how good we can be when we play to our potential.

The emergence of some of our younger players like Chris Doyle and the Little Mexican Jack Redshaw has been very pleasing to see.

Jack may be only a little fella but he is a natural goal scorer, as he has shown on 16 occasions this season, and Doyley came in for a couple of really difficult games and was exceptional.

Although we are all glad to have a little break we are all really looking forward to next season already. What I’m not looking forward to is pre-season.

But tell me any pro who is and I’ll show you a liar.
