The sighs of relief around the Globe Arena were clearly audible at the final whistle on Saturday.

That win had felt a really long time coming.

The management, staff, players and fans all deserve enormous credit for it as they all played a big part.

The gaffer and Ken had us in for extra sessions last week to put things right.

I’ve been in teams before where this sort of thing can lead to complaining from players but all the boys got their heads down and worked their socks off to right the wrongs of the Plymouth game.

And the Shrimps fans really got behind us and stuck with us after we conceded so early in the game.

It wasn’t the prettiest of games but we ground out the victory and at the end were deserving of all three points.

We could have even won by more but we’ll happily take the 2-1 scoreline.

As so often this season we gave ourselves a mountain to climb but Kev’s goal epitomised the spirit and determination showed in the game.

He really had no right to get to the ball before their defender and ‘keeper and even after doing that he managed to score from an almost impossible angle.

The second goal showed just what Beels is about. He has incredible energy but even we didn’t realise how quick he was until he left two Shrimpers in his wake.

But what is vitally important now is that we build on it and don’t let all that hard work go to waste.

As I said last week we have a massive month coming up and we need to show the same spirit and desire to get where we want to be.
