Barry Roche column: I’ve been lucky with injury...until now

Obviously the main topic of conversation this week is my injury.

I had been struggling a little for the last few weeks with what I presumed was just a little niggly hip injury.

I was sent for a precautionary MRI scan to see what the problem was but at no point did I believe it would turn out to be so serious.

I thought that all it would require would be a few weeks rest but unfortunately that’s not the case.

I’ve been lucky enough to have escaped serious injury in my career until now so I just have to knuckle down and work my way back to fitness in due course.

Andreas (Arestidou) has been struggling with injury lately too and his problem coinciding with mine has been terrible timing for him because he has had to be very patient over the past couple of years waiting for his chance.

And with us both being unavailable for the Exeter game it meant the club had to bring in someone as cover.

And the club have brought in an excellent replacement in my old mate Scott Davies.

Scotty is a very good keeper who is extremely unlucky not to be playing in the Fleetwood side right now but has taken the right choice in coming out to play football rather than staying put and sitting on the bench.

I’m not the only player in the squad to have picked up a really disappointing injury after we lost Jamie Devitt to a pretty bad hamstring tear in the game against York.

Devs is arguably our most creative player and to lose him for a couple of months is a big loss for the side as well.
