There was certainly no better way to start the season than what we did on Saturday against Dagenham.
Dagenham is always a very tough place to go but we knew that if we went about our jobs in the right manner then we could come away with a positive result.
We went there with a very specific game plan and it worked an absolute treat.
We worked very hard to stop them playing and apart from a ten or fifteen minute spell at the end of the first half they rarely troubled us.
Our shape was very good, particularly when we went two up and they couldn’t break us down.
We are a much stronger squad this season as a whole and that was shown by the bench we had.
Last season we were down to the bare bones on more than once occasion but the competition for places all over the pitch now will no doubt stand us in good stead.
Pre-season always seems to take a long time to finish and everybody was chomping at the bit in the build up to the game.
So to start in the manner we did was very pleasing.
But as good a result as it was, it’s only one game and we need to make sure we take the same disciplined performance into the next week where we have three home games on the spin.
