Charlie Bailey hopes impressing on loan at Kendal Town has helped him secure his Morecambe future.
The midfielder has been a key figure for the Mintcakes in the Evo-Stik First Division North with his time at Parkside Road ending after the 2-2 draw with Lancaster City on Easter Monday.
The 18-year-old said: “I would only have been playing a couple of reserve games a month so that’s why I came out on loan.
“Kendal have had a lot of Saturday, Tuesday games for the time I’ve been here.
“So it was about getting games and enjoying myself.
“I’m a bit gutted to be going back because it was regular football.
“But I’m hoping to go back to Morecambe and get a few appearances under my belt.
“And then hopefully I’ll look forward to next year and see if there’s still anything for me at the club. Fingers crossed.”
Bailey signed off at Kendal in style with a stunning 25-yard strike nearly handing the Mintcakes a derby win over the Dolly Blues.
The Lancaster-born midfielder said: “They are the ones you dream of.
“It’s a brilliant way to sign off.
“We were unfortunate not to get the win and we’re a bit gutted to be honest.
“But at the end of the day we’ll take a draw against a good Lancaster side.”
It has been a difficult period for Kendal with problems off the field seeing a promising squad decimated.
Bailey has however enjoyed his time having shared a midfield with older brother Sam.
He said: “It’s been brilliant playing with my brother.
“It’s never happened before apart from once at a Sunday league team.
“The lads have all been brilliant.
“They get amongst you if you’re a new lad and make you feel welcome.
“It’s just a good place to be, even with everything that’s going on in the background.
“We’ve stuck by each other and done the best job we can.”
More than anything Bailey feels the experience of playing against men on a regular basis will stand him in good stead should he get a run in League 2.
He said: “It’s completely different.
“You get a few men in the ressies but there are a few players even younger than me.
“It’s a good standard and I’ve enjoyed it.
“The only thing is it’s been a bit too physical for my liking at times!”
