Warren: Fury-Joshua talk ‘wide of the mark’

The London 2012 gold medalist’s promoter Eddie Hearn wants to make the fight next summer but Warren said reports of plans to sort the battle of Britain were “both inaccurate and wide of the mark”.  Talk of a fight between Joshua, who has impressed with 10 straight knockout wins as a professional, and Fury, has captured the imagination but Queensberry Promotions chief Warren insists the Morecambe giant is concentrating on the world title shot at Wladimir Klitschko he secured with victory over Dereck Chisora.  In a statement, Queensberry Promotions said: “Whilst Joshua is an exciting talent, he is yet to go beyond three rounds in his first 10 fights, mostly against ageing opposition and only has one championship fight on his record.

“However, Fury is now undefeated in 23 fights, and holds three championships belts and the number one spot with the WBO and Klitschko, who after his next fight in March, will be ordered to fight him next.

“Tyson Fury, Fury Promotions and Hennessy Sports have an exclusive promotional agreement with Queensberry Promotions and the next fight is scheduled for February in London.

“Following that, Klitschko is the target and negotiations will open in March and if an agreement isn’t reached, the fight will go to purse bids and will take place within 120 days thereafter.”

In his MailOnline column, Hearn said: “Tyson Fury is on the horizon for next summer.

“We are moving towards the inevitable, which is a fight with Fury and the other top domestic fighters.

“I watched the main event from the show at the ExCel at the weekend and I have to say Fury-Dereck Chisora was one of the dullest heavyweight fights I have seen.

“Fury is a great character and a quality fighter but do you really see him coping with Anthony’s power, speed and work rate?

“Do you not think Anthony would have blasted Chisora out of there far earlier?

“People ask if AJ is ready to fight Fury but, to be honest, is Fury ready to fight AJ? I believe this is a fight that will bring both men to new levels in terms of financial rewards.

“It’s a numbers game and these numbers add up.”
