MacMillan hoping for second knockout night

The former Skerton ABC man made the perfect start to his career in the paid ranks with a stoppage win over Giuseppe Daprato at the Macron Stadium in Bolton back in April.

The 20-year-old welterweight is back in action against an opponent to be confirmed on June 18 as part of trainer Johnney Roye’s MGM Manchester ‘Night of the Champions’ show at Preston Guild Hall.

MacMillan said: “I like to go to war and have a scrap.

“Another stoppage would help get me noticed and I’m keen to get on.

“It’s all about getting my second win though.

“I’m always learning and just want to pull off what we’ve been working on in the gym.

“I know I need to take my time more and not rush in.”

In the early days of his professional career, the man who shared an amateur gym with fellow rising district stars Tomi Tatham and Isaac Lowe as a youngster admits he has found it tough juggling boxing and his day job doing ground work.

Hard-hitting MacMillan said: “I’ve been working too much to be honest!

“It’s been pretty full on, the good weather means we’ve been working later to get jobs done.

“But I’ve been getting down to see Johnney a couple of times a week.

“I’ve been doing a lot of stuff by myself too.

“I’m always straight out for running after work and have been doing some track work too.

“The boxing ability is there I just need to keep my fitness up.”

MacMillan is set to be backed by another vocal following in Preston, the Westgate man expecting to have around 100 fans supporting him.

He said: “I’ve always had a good backing, I did in the amateurs.

“There were about 80 at my first fight and it looks like they’ll be a few more this time.

“Preston is nice and close. They were the noisiest last time and I’m sure they will be again.”
