Lowe vows to do whatever it takes to stay unbeaten and lift English title

The unbeaten Westgate Warrior, 10-0 as a professional, takes on Devon’s Jamie Speight for the vacant English featherweight title in the biggest fight of his life.

The pair clash on Sky Sports at the First Direct Arena in Leeds in front of an expected packed house of 12,000 fans.

Home favourite Josh Warrington tops the bill when he defends his Commonwealth and WBC International titles against Australia’s Joel Brunker.

Morecambe’s Lowe said: “What makes me confident is the great camp I’ve had and the fact I’ve sparred him before.

“It was a few years ago and I’d only had one fight or something. We’ve both improved but I’m 10-0.

“I don’t know how to lose and I’ll do whatever it takes to make sure it doesn’t happen on Saturday night.

“We’ve got a gameplan and if we stick to it we’ll win the fight all day long.”

The 21-year-old’s build-up has been a little bit different with the International Masters Bronze featherweight champion spending plenty of his time in Doncaster.

Trainer Bob Howard has been on a holiday he was unable to reschedule meaning Lowe has spent most of his time at the Freedom Boxing gym with Warrington’s dad Sean O’Hagan as well as Dave Hulley and James Harrington who previously looked after the McDonnell twins Jamie and Gavin.

Lowe said: “I’ve been in Doncaster for pretty much my full camp.

“There’s some great people here though. I’m feeling as fit and strong as I’ve ever been.

“Josh Warrington’s dad Sean, Dave and Jimmy know what they’re doing and know the game inside out.

“With Bob I couldn’t ask for a better team and when he gets back we’ll be ready to go.”
Preparation has included sparring Warrington, a fighter the Morecambe prospect has a lot of respect for.

He said: “Me and Josh are good mates.

“I’m over the moon with how things have gone for him and I’m following in his footsteps.

“He fought Jamie Speight for the English title and now I’m doing it.

“He’s at world level and maybe I can pick up his titles as he keep moving on.

“It would be disrespectful for me to say I could challenge him now, he’s levels above, but I want the big fights in the future and who knows?”

The build-up to fight night will be busier than usual for Lowe as he gets his first taste of big-time boxing.

He will have a press conference, weigh-in and head-to-head to contend with before he gets down to business on Sky on Saturday night.

The former Lancaster Boxing Academy fighter said: “I’m fighting live hopefully which is a massive bonus.

“I’m looking forward to all the build-up as well because it’s something I’ve not done before.

“It will give people a chance to have a look at me and see what I’m about and with the press conference and the weigh-in it’s a big occasion.

“It’s something I thrive off though.

“This is what I’m in the game for, what I’ve been dreaming of since I was a little boy.”
