Lowe battles to Doyle draw to retain English title

Morecambe’s Westgate Warrior, who moved to 11-0-1, started slowly but finished the 10-round contest strongly to ensure he remained undefeated as a professional.

Both fighters had promised an all-action affair in the build-up and didn’t disappoint at the Manchester Arena.

Doyle, now 12-1-1, landed the cleaner shots in the earlier rounds, particularly dominating the fourth.

But Lowe, a former Lancaster Boxing Academy fighter, composed himself and used his speed and boxing skills to good effect in the latter rounds.

Making Doyle miss with regularity as the fight went on, Lowe took the final round as the pair put everything on the line in the last three minutes. .

It set up a nervous wait as the judges' cards were read out with John Latham scoring it 96-95 for Doyle, Phil Edwards 97-93 for Lowe and Dave Parris a 95-95 draw.
