Five fighters headed to Cumbria on Friday night with Jimmy Mason the first to step through the ropes, winning a unanimous decision against a Carlisle boxer from Currock House ABC.

It was Currock House against Skerton in the next bout with John Dugdale picking up another unanimous decision for the Morecambe-based club.

Shaun Michael Varey was hoping to overturn a previous loss to his opponent from Cleator Moor Boxing Club and he did just that to make it a hat-trick of unanimous wins.

Fourth in was Sean Coxon who took on an experienced fighter from North Shields Boxing Club and kept up Skerton’s 100 per cent night.

The final boxer in action for the club was senior boxer Niall Doherty against a durable fighter from Currock House and Doherty becalmed the home crowd to make it five out of five on the night.

On Saturday in Salford, one of the club’s youngest fighters, 10-year-old Nelson Birchall, was representing Skerton in his first ever bout.

He took on a fighter from Manx ABC on The Isle Of Man and caught the attention of Manchester fight favourite, Steve ‘The Viking’ Foster, as he came away a clear winner after three rounds.
