The 2014 Junior Triathlon season started in style for COLT junior athletes with a win for nine year old Rhys Ashton in the Tristart 1 category at the Oval Leisure Center on the Wirral at the weekend.

Rhys exited his 150m swim in 2:28 and clocked up the fastest 1500m run time of 6:44 to take the win by two seconds following an exciting final sprint.

Also delivering a superb performance was 10-year-old Sasha Oldham, who only started swimming with Carnforth Otters Amateur Swimming Club four months ago.

Sasha, at the younger end of her Tristar 2 age group, finished in 10th place after a solid 200m swim and logged the fifth fastest run time over 2Km.

Two excellent performances also came from Kirsty Maher (8) in Tristar 1 and Ffion Ashton (12) in Tristar 3, both at the younger end of their age group.

Kirsty came in 10th with a time of 13:20 over 150m swim and 1500m run and Ffion sixth with a time of 21:15 over a 400m swim and 3Km run.

COLT would like to thank Carnforth Otters ASC for providing dedicated swim training for the athletes and Lancaster and Morecambe Athletics for run training.
