DEFENDING champions Lancashire claimed a place in the final of the Bill Beaumont County Championship at Twickenham on May 29 following their victory 37-17 against Cheshire at Macclesfield.

Head coach Mark Nelson will now be busy preparing his squad to take on Hertfordshire, who defeated Gloucestershire at St Albans 53-8.

Former Vale of Lune player Adam Armstrong, who plays for Barking in National League One, made the starting line-up although he did have to be replaced during the second half following an injury that caused him to suffer double vision.

Again Jimmy Moore had a taste of the action coming on in the second half.

The Armstrong family has had strong links with the Vale over many seasons. Nigel Armstrong, Adam’s father, still resides locally and he is the son of the legendary Maurice Armstrong who did so much to promote the Vale not only locally, but much further afield.
