After a goalless first half Carr struck an excellent opener on 47 minutes with a delightful curler from the edge of the box.
Wainwright came close to adding a second on the hour when he was denied by an excellent Tim Deasy save but three minutes l
ater he was on the scoresheet with a fine finish from 12 yards out after Craig Stanley's shot was blocked.
Elsewhere new striker Diarmuid O'Carroll showed some excellent touches and came close to a goal of his own on 44 minutes when he forced Deasy into a save low to his right.
Former Shrimps player Jamie Burns came on as a 56th minute substitute for Barrow who also saw another former Morecambe player come off the bench with Jason Walker making some decent runs up front.
Barrow thought they had scored a late goal but Chris Thompson's effort was ruled out for offside.
