PLAYERS from Morecambe FC have swapped the lush green grass of the football pitch for the flower beds of White Lund Nursery to support a team of city council gardeners.
Members of the Shrimps' squad visited the nursery to view the council's entry into the upcoming NHS Flower Show at Tatton (July 23 to 27) - a flower bed in the shape of Christie Park itself.

Entitled 'Bring Me Football', the football-themed flower bed celebrates Morecambe FC's achievement in gaining promotion to the Football League.

In the centre of the flowery pitch, a replica of the Eric Morecambe Statue looks out over the stands.

Last year the council's gardening team picked up a gold medal with their display 'Out of Africa', which marked the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the slave trade.

A team of four will journey down to Tatton Park on July 20 to set up the display ready for the opening day.

"We are delighted, and honoured, to have been chosen as the focal point for this prestigious competition," said Rod Taylor, Morecambe FC chief executive.

"A lot of hard work has gone into this display and we wish them well.''
