TWO of Morecambe's new signings have spoken of the influence of Shrimps boss Sammy McIlroy in their decisions to move to Christie Park.
Neil Wainwright and goalkeeper Barry Roche both have League Two experience, with Darlingotn and Chesterfield respectively.
But now they are both excited about working with McIlroy and his assistant Mark Lillis.
Wainwright joined after being released by Darlington for whom he starred in last season's play-off semi-finals against Rochdale.
He said: "I had interest from a few clubs but Sammy McIlroy really sold the place to me.
"It was time for a new challenge and I am looking forward to getting started."
Irish keeper stopper Roche, 26, played more than 130 games for the Spireites over the past two seasons but was allowed to leave on a free.
He added: "Like Neil, Sammy McIlroy was a real draw for me. I have heard some good things about him and the club and I can see no reason why we can't improve on last year."
Ryan McCann, 26, has lots of experience in the Scottish League, mainly with Queen of South with whom he featured in this season's Scottish Cup final against Rangers. He has also played for Bohemians in Ireland and had a short spell with Hartlepool.
Andy Parrish, 20, was surprisingly released by Bury and McIlroy moved quickly to tie up the promising defender.
Matty Bell captained the club's youth team last year while Aaron Taylor – whose dad David played for the Shrimps in 1987 – has been prolific at several levels for the Shrimps. He scored for the first team in a Lancashire Cup tie against Lancaster in 20006-07.
