MORECAMBE have agreed to release defender Danny Adams from his contract.
The veteran left-back, who was a member of the Shrimps' promotion-winning side, has been allowed to leave the club ahead of his contract officially coming to an end at the close of the season.

Shrimps boss Sammy McIlroy said he wanted to thank Adams for his service to the club since joining from Huddersfield.

He said: "Danny has been an excellent player for this club and his experience really did help us play a role in gaining promotion.
"He was with me at Stockport and I knew all about his attributes and what he could bring to this club.

"He was quite rightly voted player of the year a couple of seasons ago but with the form of Laurence Wilson his chances were always going to be limited for the rest of the season and he leaves with all our best wishes.''

This Saturday the Shrimps look to continue their play-off chase with the long trip to Bournemouth who will be gunning for revenge.

The Shrimps shocked the high-flying Cherries in December as they crushed Eddie Howe's side 5-0 with a stunning performance at Christie Park. But with the race for the promotion places hotting up now McIlroy feels his side will have to be at their best this weekend.

He said: "We were superb against Bournemouth earlier in the season but I am sure they will want to make amends for that.

"They are a strong side and looking for automatic promotion so will be keen to make home advantage count.

"But we have shown on a number of occasions this season that we are more than a match for the top sides when we are on top of our game and against Bury last week we showed that we can keep out the best teams when we are on top of our game."

* MIDFIELDER Stewart Drummond signed a one-year extension to his contract in midweek to take him to the end of the 2010-11 season.

* MORECAMBE Reserves bowed out of the Lancashire Senior Cup on Monday night with a 2-0 defeat against Preston North End at Christie Park. The game saw the welcome returns of Fraser McLachlan and Ian Craney who are looking to regain fitness after recent injuries.
