There’s still time to sign up for an annual event which raises thousands of pounds for a vital charity.
St John’s Hospice’s eighth annual Moonlight Walk takes place on Saturday June 14 and is hoping to attract a record number of walkers and raise more money than ever.
Last year saw 1,250 ladies with ages ranging from 12 up to 80 walk either 14k or 25k to raise more than £100,000 for the Lancaster hospice.
This year the individual who raises the most money will win a year’s hairdressing at Jo and Cass with a second prize of a treatment each month for a year at the Midland Spa, Morecambe.
St John’s costs about £70,000 a week to run and receives only a third of its funding from the NHS.
Chloë Preston appreciates the important role the hospice plays and how events like the Moonlight Walk are key to raising vital funds.
She said: “Our grandad is currently in the hospice so we have experienced first-hand the amazing work done by all. From massages to full cooked breakfasts, they do absolutely everything they can to make their patients as comfortable as possible.
“I was so amazed by what a great place it is that I cried.
“I am unable to do the walk myself but my little sister Alice is doing it so we will all be cheering her on from the sidelines.”
Head of fundraising, Catherine Butterworth, said: “We are so grateful to all the walkers, volunteers, marshals, local businesses and everyone who joins together to make this event such a special part of our community year after year. “We simply couldn’t continue to run without it.”
The walk is supported by an army of volunteers on the night including marshals.
Call 01524 382538 or email email@example.com if you would like to volunteer your help, or register for the 14k or 25k walk.
Registration, costing £18, closes on Wednesday June 11.
