MORECAMBE rocked yet again at the weekend, thanks to thousands of teddy boys, jive bunnies and rock 'n' rollers.

The town went back to the 1950s as the Tutti Frutti Festival - and of course, the fantastic weather - pulled in huge crowds to Morecambe promenade on Saturday afternoon.

And following on from the recent success of the Kite Festival weekend, Tutti Frutti gave residents and visitors alike the feeling that Morecambe really is on the way back.

People came to the resort from all over the country to enjoy the 50s-themed entertainment centred around The Platform, including acts such as The Wildkatz NW, Furious, the Firebirds, Crazy Jay and the Partytimers, Darrel Higham and the Enforcers, and Phil Hayley and his Comments.

Many made the effort to get into the spirit of the 50s and came in vintage outfits, then entertained the crowds by line dancing to the music outside The Platform.

They included the Happy Feet school of dance and Glasgow troupe 'Rock 'Til U Drop'.

There was also a great display of vintage vehicles, Punch and Judy shows, children's rides and a coconut shy.

Tutti Frutti began on Friday night at The Carleton with live music, then continued at The Platform on Saturday afternoon, before the rocking climax back at The Carleton on Saturday.

Ricky Aron had everyone on their feet with his tribute act to Elvis Presley and Shakin' Stevens, and Buddy Holly tribute Craig Martin also proved popular.

The festival even caught the eye of a wedding party across the prom at The Midland Hotel. The bride and groom were so transfixed by the music and dancing on Saturday afternoon, they broke off from their reception to watch!

The event was organised by Poulton Neighbourhood Management and Winning Back Morecambe's West End.
Residents including Sarah Ellis, Jackie Colyer, Kate Drummond, Keith Louis and Steve Middlesbrough were also involved in making the festival a success.
And the weekend's entertainment in Morecambe didn't stop when the Tutti Frutti festival ended.
A Latin American flavour came to the sun-soaked prom thanks to Sunday's Morecambe Bay Salsa Dance Festival, organised by Morecambe couple Anthony Padgett and Stephanie Sturges.

Dancers from all over the North West took part in a salsa competition while budding dancers learned a few steps behind the Eric Morecambe Statue.

Overall, it was another action-packed and busy weekend in Morecambe...so let's keep them coming!

What's your view on the use of CCTV?
More the merrier - if you've done nothing wrong, you've nothing to worry about
Only appropriate in certain crime-spot areas
I'd be very worried if we had too many
