Have your say

May I use the correspondence pages of the Visitor to offer my grateful thanks to the Visitor and the Sunshine Awards for the splendid gift of the new Sunshine Culture Award presented to me as founder and musical director of the Promenade Concert Orchestra?

I was quite speechless and taken aback with the response I received at the Sunshine Ball. However, without the support of so many people none of this would have been possible.

I would like to thank everyone who has voted for the PCO over the last four years; for the playing members of the PCO itself for producing some wonderful concerts and believing in me as their musical director; and also the supporting committee members who balance the books, produce the programmes, brochures and posters, organise the Friends; and the programme, CD and refreshment sellers; the Platform staff, VIC and Lancaster City Council for their unending support as well as Morecambe Town Council, Lancashire County Council, our Platinum Sponsors, Happy Mount Park Catering and all the local businesses who kindly advertise in our programme each year, and those in the past, without whose financial help and support we would not exist.

Thanks must also go to the local newspapers which have all supported the PCO since its formation with articles and reviews; but most of all, the 8,000 and more members of the audiences since we started seven years and 28 concerts ago. Without them it all would have been wasted.

The last person to thank is my wife and supporter, Valerie Baulard, who, not only keeps me on my toes, organises the Friends’ reserved seats, trips, raffles, CD and programme sellers as well as refreshment providers; she also sometimes sings with the PCO as she will be in our next concert of Housewives’ Choice on Sunday, May 18, at 3pm at the Platform.

Hope to see you all there. Please keep on supporting the PCO.

Howard Rogerson.
